I hope you are all faring well through these winter chills. I thought to include this photo of my flower bed last summer to remind us of the spring around the corner.



I want to thank all of you for your kind comments and encouragement to keep writing these newsletters which I hope you continue to find helpful. Needless to say, I continue to remind you that having a website is not a be all and end all solution and continues to need your input to help it stand up and be counted, but we are never far from an email or phone call to help you achieve this.

Jacky Pearson, Watercolour Artist has been painting and drawing all her life following a career in environmental conservation, Jacky is a member of Watercolour New Zealand. What you can do to improve your rankings on Google?

1. Improve Content
2. Add Google +1 Button to you pages
3. Add Video. Turn your photos into video


Google is looking for one simple thing - web sites that contain helpful, high quality information.

Earlier this year Google introduced and launched big algorithmic improvement to its ranking:"it's designed to reduce rankings for low quality sites — sites which are low-value add for users, copy content from other websites or sites that are just not very useful. At the same time, it will provide better rankings for high-quality sites—sites with original content and information such as research, in-depth reports, thoughtful analysis and so on." Website content must be written in a specific way, because website readers are looking for something a little different from what the average reader wants. The average internet user doesn't read pages, but rather quickly scans the information. Read more on content writing

What I'm finding is some of our customers are still relying heavily on sending newsy emails to those listed on their limited address books, instead of putting them on their website with a much bigger audience! PLUS original fresh content it will provide better rankings in Google search for your website! It's far better to put your news on your website, then copy-paste the item or the URL into the emails you still want to send out to those on your address book - it achieves a far wider reach and much easier access. For example, club news, church news, news of upcoming exhibitions and events, newsletters, special offers, etc. But if you don't have time to regularly add these precious texts to your website, you may like to consider us for your website maintenance so we can put your blogs on your site for you by just emailing them to us.

Site architecture also can make or break a site's chances of achieving prominence in the search engine results pages. There is usually no one single element but more a combination of items that collectively add up to a big impediment to search engines. One small example is to avoid capitalization AND spaces in file names. Use hyphens to separate words instead. Read more on naming your files here.

There is a raft of things you should know and put in place to ensure your website is out there and bringing you visitors (and customers), so if you feel you would like some help with this, or if you think your website is not portraying what you have to offer in the Best Light, please ask us for help as it may be time to revisit your site and consider a revamp.



New Google Feature: Google +1 Button for Websites

Websites can now add the +1 button to their sites, including individual web pages and articles. Google's newest feature is similar to the Facebook "Like" button.

Google has stated this button will be a new ranking factor, so that website publishers could see “more, and better qualified traffic coming from Google” as potential visitors see recommendations from friends and contacts beneath their search results.

Add +1 to your pages to help your site stand out in search results. Once you add the button, Google may crawl or re-crawl the page.

Just let us know if you want to put the Google +1 Button on your website, and we will do this for you!



Video Tool

Video is one of the most powerful marketing tools, which is no wonder that YouTube is now the second largest search engine in the world after Google, its parent company.
