"Why can't i find my website?

11 August 2009

As soon as your site is available on the Internet, you can submit it to Google by completing the add URL form at: www.google.com/addurl.html

Getting your website indexed (and indexed favourably) takes time. Be patient. Google is notorious for putting new websites in what is known as their "sandbox". This sandbox effectively holds a new website down for a period of time. This is done to prevent businesses from creating scores of new websites to quickly promote their primary site.

You have to start referencing your web site everywhere possible. Regardless of how great your product, painting or music is, it won't help your business unless people know it is available on the web. In this day of immediate information, people want to know more about you NOW. Make it easier for them by adding a line to your emails and newsgroups/forums signature with a tag line and web site address. It's a terrific marketing technique! One quick click and people have access to your site.

Another way to be listed, and to raise your page rank too, is by getting other websites to link to yours. Links pointing at your site - that what counts in Google search position. This is the most important marketing tool and especially for the brand new websites so your name gets known everywhere for what beautiful work that you do. You have to actively and continually seeking out other sites and ask them if they would exchange links with you.

Promoting a new web site is not easy. It requires a lot of hard work, hours on the computer and ingenuity to attract potential customers. Be creative, because this is the age of the Internet. The rewards can be enormous if you do your homework.
